Why garage doors don't open without springs?

Garage doors are extremely heavy and the main job of garage door springs is to counterbalance that weight and movement of the door. If that power is missing from the system, it will be very hard to move the overhead door. Even if it opens, it won't remain open since springs keep them open, too.

What are corner or bottom brackets?

In most sectional garage doors, bottom or corner brackets are the two garage door brackets on the right and left. They are the portions of the garage door to which lifting cables are attached. They are different from the vertical track attached to a doorjamb.

Should I place a lock on my garage door?

No, this isn’t necessary if you have an automatic garage door opener. The opener will come equipped with a remote control, which operates your garage doors and keeps the doors locked, automatically. This is only required if you have an older door without an automatic opener.

How do chain and belt drive openers compare?

They actually work in exactly the same way. The only difference comes from the make of the drive. The chain is made from steel and is very strong and durable. However, it is noisy when it runs inside the rail. You will need to lubricate it to keep it as quiet as possible. The belt drive garage door openers have a belt which can be made from steel-reinforced rubber, polyurethane or fiberglass. It is durable and operates very quietly. It doesn’t require maintenance.
